Not really a suit per se, but rather a sport coat/blazer. Not really a suit person but am trying to get in the habit for certain occasions. I don't want to check a suit bag for a simple jacket. How do you travel coach with a jacket? Do wear it the whole time? Do you fold it and put it in your luggage? Do you ask the flight attendant to hang your jacket up with the others? Do you try and put it in the overhead?
I really have no idea how all this works.
Appreciate suggestions and comments.

if you're flying coach, or even in first class, sitting down for hours on end you'll wrinkle the back of just about any jacket. so i would never wear it...

don't put it in your carry-on, that's even worse than wearing it. it'll wrinkle all-over as opposed to just the back being wrinkled (if you wear it while seated)...

best choice, is to ask the flight attendant to hang it up. they always have hanging space, usually by the cabin door...

if for some reason there is no space at all to hang it, just fold it over your lap and keep it there for the flight. i know it's a pain, having it in your lap especially during food service, but that's the only way you're going to walk off the plane without having the coat wrinkled up.

Recommend a couple of books--

either "Clothes and the Man", or "Style and the Man", both by Alan Flusser

Great basics on dress etiquette, as well as how to care for your wardrobe..

get a suit bag. you can get cheap, light ones that will keep your jackets wrinkle free
